Toyama Ryu: Traditional Japanese swordsmanship

Toyama Ryu is both a kenjutsu (a sword art that teaches the techniques of sword fighting) as well an an iaido (a ‘way’, a polished sword art that is intended to help develop a certain mindset). Both aspects are necessary to gain the gifts of real, authentic sword study. Actual combat skills — real cuts that are capable of cutting something, the ability to deal with an opponent — make the moving meditation of swordwork alive and vibrant. Iaido’s intense focus and pursuit of perfection gives the swordwork a depth and resonance.

The way of the sword is a journey. It is a path that tempers your body, mind, heart and spirit.
